Gestamp opens its sixth plant in China

Gestamp, a global company dedicated to design, development and manufacturing of metal parts for automobiles, has conducted an Opening Ceremony of its sixth plant in China with the attendance of Shenyang Economic Development Area and Shenyang municipality authorities. This new project will help meet the growing demand for China, and it’s known for being the first-launching automotive components manufacturer in BMW Automobile Industrial Park in Tiexi district of Shenyang city. The company started its growth in Asia in 2006 and currently has 12 production plants and two R & D centers. Gestamp in China employs 2.400 staff and has a turnover of 310 M€, forming part of the major economic development of the country in such a competitive sector as automotive. Gestamp is present in China through production sites and R&D centers in Kunshan, Wuhan, Chongqing, Hefei, Shanghai and Shenyang and has new plants under construction. Francisco J. Riberas, President and CEO of Gestamp, sees this inauguration as a window to a greater progress in China: “The opening of Gestamp Shenyang continues to reflect our determination to consolidate our position as strategic partners for OEMs who want to take advantage of the huge opportunity that Asia represents, particularly China, with a predicted output of more than 30 million vehicles in 2017 (LMC Global Insight, 2012). Gestamp is in an excellent position to provide state-of-the-art-technology to OEMs willing to make the most out of this opportunity”. The new Gestamp plant is located in the Tiexi district at the Shenyang Economic Development Area in Northern China and represents the largest investment from the Spanish-born global player around Liaoning area. This plant will perform works on hot stamping, cold stamping, and assembly for cars such as BMW, VW, GM, Daimler and Hyundai. This new location will have 182 employees by December 2013. New phases of development of the opening site are planned according to forecasted growth of demand in China for coming years.
