Gestamp, a multinational specializing in the design, development, and manufacturing of highly engineered metal components for the automotive industry, is participating in the Auto Shanghai exhibition, held in Shanghai, China, from April 23 to May 2.
Now in its 21st edition, Auto Shanghai 2025 brings together the world’s leading automotive companies under the theme “Embracing Innovation, Empowering the Future.” The exhibition reinforces its role as a global platform for shaping the future of mobility, with a strong focus on international cooperation and technological innovation to drive the transformation of the automotive sector.
Gestamp, a global leader in metal components for the automotive industry, is presenting its latest technological solutions in products and materials. These innovations are designed to improve the strength and durability of vehicle components while enabling the production of lighter and safer vehicles. This is achieved through an increasingly efficient, competitive, and sustainable manufacturing process that supports the decarbonization of the automotive sector.
“At Auto Shanghai 2025, we are showcasing our latest advancements in technology and innovation for the automotive sector. Through our R&D efforts, we enhance production efficiency, optimize costs and assembly time, and reduce component weight without compromising safety, contributing to the development of the new electric mobility era,” said Francisco J. Riberas, Executive Chairman of Gestamp.
Ges-Gigastamping™: a new family of BiW components designed for the mobility of the future
Ges-Gigastamping™ is an innovative and pioneering family of large-format BiW components that consolidate multiple parts into a single unit, reducing total vehicle weight while improving safety. In addition to significantly cutting production and assembly times, Ges-Gigastamping™ optimizes material usage. The product line includes body components such as Ges-DoorRing™, Ges-OnePieceFloor™, and Ges-RingFrame™. This combination of enhanced safety, reduced weight, lower costs and CO₂ emissions in a single product, sets new standards and offers manufacturers a cost-effective solution for the mobility of the future.
Chassis: optimizing weight, safety, comfort, and cost through innovation
In the field of chassis development, Gestamp is introducing its Multipath Platform Concept, a platform designed to accommodate a variety of powertrains, including internal combustion engines (ICE), plug-in hybrids (PHEV), battery electric vehicles (BEV), and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs). This approach uses a single base frame, simplifying design and reducing the number of individual parts, leading to lower assembly line costs and increased manufacturing efficiency.
At this edition of Auto Shanghai, the company is also showcasing one of its latest chassis innovations: the Highpertube chassis, a highly engineered solution made with high-strength tubular materials that enhances vehicle safety and performance in the event of a collision. Produced using cutting-edge tools such as hydroforming technology, it delivers top-tier quality and cost efficiency.
Alongside these developments, Gestamp is unveiling for the first time the Advanced Tie Blade Knuckle Ges-Blade, a chassis component made of high-strength steel and manufactured using advanced welding technologies that simplify production processes. This innovation significantly reduces component weight, improves the suspension system, and optimizes production costs.
Ges-Enubox®: cutting-edge battery safety solutions
In response to the growing shift towards vehicle electrification, Gestamp is strengthening its commitment to technology and innovation. At Auto Shanghai, the company is unveiling Ges-Enubox®, its proprietary battery box solution, which marks a turning point in structural design by combining safety, lightweight, and cost optimization in a single component.
A central element of this architecture is the battery box itself – a high-precision product that includes additional components such as trays and covers. Designed to accommodate all battery types and their specific requirements, it offers maximum protection with minimum weight and maximum efficiency. These solutions are developed through a continuous co-creation process tailored to each OEM´s needs.
Mechanisms: innovations designed for safety and comfort
At Auto Shanghai, Edscha Gestamp – a subsidiary of Gestamp specializing in mechanisms – reinforces its leadership and commitment to developing advanced automotive components. The company is presenting its electric sliding door system, designed to improve comfort and safety for vehicle users. This solution integrates custom software that enables control via mobile applications or voice commands, simplifying the door’s opening and closing process. It also features an anti-pinch safety function, which instantly stops the door at any position, enhancing passenger protection through advanced technology.
Additionally, the system incorporates a three-piece rail (TPR), which streamlines production by reducing weight, manufacturing costs, and tolerances.
Gestamp in China
Since the start of its operations in 2007, Gestamp has followed and developed a strategic, competitive business model based on two main pillars: innovation and internationalization. This business model has enabled the company to become a high-value technological partner for all major automakers.
Gestamp began its operations with a single plant in Kunshan, and today it operates 13 plants, two R&D centers in the country, and employs more than 5,000 people.
“Our commitment to the Asian market is unwavering. It is a strategic region where Gestamp drives the development of technologies and products to address the challenges of future mobility, both locally and globally,” said Antonio López, CEO of Gestamp Asia.
