One more year, Gestamp supports the young university students taking part in Formula Student, also known as Formula SAE/SAE Formula. In addition, for the first time, the company invited two German teams to join #FormulaStudentGestamp.
In Spain, Gestamp reinforces its commitment to the five teams sponsored since 2018: “ETSEIB Motorsport”, from the Technical School of Industrial Engineering of Barcelona, “Formula UC3M” from Carlos III University of Madrid, “uVigo Motorsport” from University of Vigo, “Tecnun eRacing” from University of Navarra and “Formula Student Bizkaia” from University of the Basque Country. Such support is framed within a long-term strategy based on sponsorship as a tool to bring the sector closer to students.
As a new feature, in 2019, takes a leap forward by including German teams to the project: “OWL Racing”, from the Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe and “Herkules Racing Team”, de University of Kassel.
But Formula Student is much more than competition, races and asphalt. It is the breeding ground for the future of automotive. The gathering of university students involved in a high-level competition together with professional in the sector is a good formula to improve and tackle the challenges and opportunities that our industry is posing today and that will set the pace in the years to come.
To bring the academia closer together with Gestamp, the company hold two events in its facilities. In Bielefeld (Germany), on the 23rd May it gathered 38 German students and 39 executives of the company, together with Innovation and Development and Human Resources managers, to participate in a visit to the productive plan and the R&D center that Gestamp has in the German town.
Likewise, on the 29th May, the Gestamp Technology Institute (GTI) gathered in the session “Gestamp: present and future of mobility” in Boroa (Biscay) 57 students from the Spanish teams who were also received by 44 executives of the company, including those responsible for Learning and Development, Innovation and Chassis at Gestamp. All of this, aimed at bringing together in the same event different teams and joining forces in the final sprint before starting motors next August.

What is Formula Student?
What is Formula Student about? It is the biggest motor competition at the university level addressed to students in the world. Teams prepare all year with the goal of designing and developing the prototype of the single-seater vehicle they will be using during the racing season, held in the summer in historic circuits such as Hockenheim (Germany), Silverstone (UK) or Montmeló (Spain).
